: SOLD : Antique French Painting Set
Beautiful early 1900s artist's painting set. Made in France for Bourgeois Ainé Paris. Bourgeois Ainé was a business founded in 1867, an artist's supply shop near the Musée du Louvre. They closed in 1965 to become Lefranc Bourgeois, making this a collectable piece.
This set was found at the Rue de Bretagne brocante market in Paris, just after sunrise - an early and lucky find! It has so much charm and little features inside. There are silver and gold glass paint pots, metal mixing tray, two glass pots for water, various small used paint tubes with lovely paper labels, a selection of pastels, and old unused watercolour paper still in its original tissue paper.
Within the lid, the original painting guide, unused, with gorgeous pictures - one page coloured and the same picture uncoloured, for the artist to use to practice his skills.
On the fold-out wooden section, there are accompanying paintbrushes, ruler, art accessories and a small travel easel.
Finally, an extra special feature of this set are two tiny copper stencils, still in their original tissue paper. The detail in this set is just delightful!
The solid wood box with small metal hinges features a rare art nouveau-style floral design, with 'couleurs sans danger' (safe paint colours) on the lid.
The set is in very good condition overall, with some pieces as mentioned still unused. The paint tubes are no longer useable and some tubes are broken. All glass vessels are in good order.
The box measures 19 x 26cm, 6cm high
